The Structural Engineering Research Center, established in 1996, has its roots in the Research Laboratory of Building Materials. The Research Laboratory of Building Materials, which was established in 1934 following the Great Earthquake of 1923, consolidated the investigation of fire and earthquake-resistant building materials and structures. The Structural Engineering Research Center is aggressively pursuing comprehensive studies of building structures resistant to earthquakes, fire, and wind. The staff, which includes seven professors, six associate professors, and four research associates, also directs the education of students in Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degree programs. |
